CSSI collaborated with utility engineers to custom-design an Intelli-Firewall system for a transformer located inside a building. The transformer was originally surrounded by thin metal walls, which offered minimal fire protection against fire spread or explosions.
To enhance safety, CSSI and utility employees installed steel columns around the transformer, integrating it into the existing structure. Firewall panels were fitted into the grooves of these steel columns, enclosing the transformer from ceiling to floor. One of the panels was designed with a doorway to allow utility employees to easily inspect and maintain the transformer. Additionally, ductways were incorporated into the firewalls to facilitate the attachment of electrical systems that monitor the transformer’s performance.
