At industrial sites, underground pits are commonly installed beneath transformers to collect leaked oils or temporarily store used lubricants and hazardous materials prior to disposal.
To enhance fire safety, CSSI has installed firewall systems along the stem walls of these pits at utility substations. In one case at a chemical processing facility, firewall panels were extended into the pits themselves to prevent oil migration beneath the barrier.
This firewall system is engineered to contain potential explosions and prevent fire spread, forming a fire-resistant enclosure that compartmentalizes the area and protects adjacent infrastructure. By limiting fire propagation, the system provides emergency responders with critical time to extinguish flames, reducing structural damage and safeguarding personnel.
